Study: Tai Chi May Boost Memory & Delay Dementia
A few months ago, we reported that a study had found benefits in using tai chi to reduce Parkinson’s symptoms. Now, a team of researchers from University of South Florida and Fudan University have reported that older people who do tai chi may boost their memory, delay onset of dementia, and increase brain size.
The study, published in Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, looked at 120 healthy senior citizens in Shanghai. The seniors were randomly assigned to do tai chi 3 times per week or to do nothing. Those who did tai chi showed significant increases in the size of the brain, and improvements on memory tests.
