I attended a talk by Dr. Frank Longo last night at Stanford. Frank is Chair of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford and he walked the audience of a few hundred people through emerging treatments for cognitive health.
One of the topics he touched on was the importance of physical exercise in the maintenance of brain health. He pointed out that the human body is designed to walk 10 miles a day and few of us get that type of activity anymore. And he went on to show images of brains based on patient’s body-mass index and the damage in those people who were significantly overweight.
That’s more evidence for the importance of staying fit, not just because your body needs it but because your mind needs it, too.
